Up

Up was released in 2009 by Pixar and Walt Disney Pictures.

It premiered at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival. Its instant success saw it soar past the $700 million mark at the box office, making it one of the most successful animated features of all time. This culminated with its Oscar success — becoming only the second animated film in history to receive a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Over the subsequent years, the montages seen early on in the movie, have become its lasting legacy. They are frequently seen in highlight reels of classic scenes and great moments from animated movies.

In this montage, Carl reflects on his wife Ellie, and how they grow old together, often sitting next to each other in chairs. Her empty chair is now all that remains of her.
